Here are some things to consider when thinking about whether or not you want to invest in retrofitting your home:

In 2005, emergency management experts drafted a scenario for a magnitude 6.7 earthquake on the Seattle Fault - their predictions were that more than 130,000 single family homes would suffer moderate or severe damage, and that more than 46,000 households would be displaced. This was just for a 6.7 magnitude earthquake!

If you're concerned about earthquakes with stronger magnitudes striking near where you live, then keep in mind that stronger earthquakes are possible and if your home was built before 1975 most insurance agencies will decline coverage unless it has been retrofitted already. Is considering improvements worth the extra time and cost?
