A new analysis of the Seattle area’s risk during a major earthquake has found new locations at higher potential for violent shaking. Highlighted in dark red, the Interbay area between Magnolia and Queen Anne along with northern Montlake and the University Village area are now considered at high risk for strong ground shaking in a quake.
Scientists at the U.S. Geological Survey, working with colleagues at the University of Washington, performed a massive data-crunching exercise using multiple computers to arrive at the new “Seattle Urban Seismic Hazard Map.
