A seismic event measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit the Gulf of California on Sunday, June 18, as reported by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). According to the EMSC, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).
The U.S. Tsunami Warning system reassured residents of the U.S. West Coast, British Columbia, and Alaska that there was no risk of a tsunami in the wake of the earthquake.
Confirming the seismic activity, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimated the earthquake's magnitude to be 6.3.
