On Saturday, May 20, 2023, beginning at 10:00 a.m., the first lecture will be entitled "Preparing yourself when shift happens: Earthquake readiness for the city and household." past noon. The presentation will address subjects like earthquake sources that could affect Seattle, building vulnerabilities, building regulations, and building retrofits. Attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions about possible earthquake scenarios, preparedness measures, and current earthquake occurrences that have occurred abroad. The SDCI Building and Electrical Inspections Processes lecture will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 on the same day. The function of building codes and inspections in construction, photovoltaic and electrical home safety, electrical permits, and selecting an electrical contractor are among the topics that attendees will learn about. Webex will be used for both talks, and attendees are invited to ask questions.

Building Safety Starts at Home and Prepare Your Community are the themes for this year's Building Safety Month. Through earthquake retrofitting, adherence to building and electrical standards, and completing all necessary building and electrical inspections, SDCI seminars seek to educate individuals on how to make their houses and communities more prepared for emergencies. Attendees will get the chance to speak with SDCI professionals and ask them questions regarding particular projects or circumstances after the talks.

Building Safety Month, sponsored by the International Code Council, is observed in May to increase public awareness of building safety hazards. Residents of Seattle have the opportunity to join in volunteer opportunities to support communities all throughout the city on the One Seattle Day of Service.
